  20 <P><I>AFS Administration Guide</I>
  21 <P>This guide describes the concepts and procedures that a system
  22 administrator must know to manage an AFS cell. It assumes familiarity
  23 with UNIX, but requires no previous knowledge of AFS.
  24 <P>The first chapters of the <I>AFS Administration Guide</I> present basic
  25 concepts and guidelines. Understanding them is crucial to successful
  26 administration of an AFS cell. The remaining chapters in the guide
  27 provide step-by-step instructions for specific administrative tasks, along
  28 with discussions of the concepts important to that particular task.
  29 <P><I>AFS Quick Beginnings</I>
  30 <P>This guide provides instructions for installing AFS server and client
  31 machines. It is assumed that the installer is an experienced UNIX<SUP>
  32 (R)</SUP> system administrator.
  33 <P>For predictable performance, machines must be installed and configured in
  34 accordance with the instructions in this guide.
  35 <P><I>AFS Release Notes</I>
  36 <P>This document provides information specific to each release of AFS, such as
  37 a list of new features and commands, a list of requirements and limitations,
  38 and instructions for upgrading server and client machines.
  39 <P><I>AFS User Guide</I>
  40 <P>This guide presents the basic concepts and procedures necessary for using
  41 AFS effectively. It assumes that the reader has some experience with
  42 UNIX, but does not require familiarity with networking or AFS.
  43 <P>The guide explains how to perform basic functions, including
  44 authenticating, changing a password, protecting AFS data, creating groups, and
  45 troubleshooting. It provides illustrative examples for each function
  46 and describes some of the differences between the UNIX file system and
  47 AFS.
