26
Introduction to the fstrace command suite
27
Description
28
The commands in the fstrace command suite are the interface that
29 system administrators employ to trace Cache Manager operations for debugging
30 purposes. Examples of Cache Manager operations are fetching file data
31 or the status information used to produce output for the UNIX ls
33
The fstrace command interpreter defines an extensive set of
34 Cache Manager operations as the cm event set.
35 When the event set is activated, the Cache Manager writes a message to the
36 cmfx trace log in kernel memory each time it performs
37 one of the defined operations. The log expands only to a defined size
38 (by default, 60 KB), after which it is overwritten in a circular fashion (new
39 trace messages overwrite the oldest ones). If an operation of
40 particular interest occurs, the administrator can afterward display the log on
41 the standard output stream or write it to a file for later study. For
42 more specific procedural instructions, see the AFS Administration
44
There are several categories of commands in the fstrace command
47

Commands to administer or display information about the trace log:
48
fstrace clear, fstrace lslog, fstrace
50

Commands to set or display the status of the event set:
51
fstrace lsset and fstrace setset

57
Options
58
All fstrace commands accept the following optional flag.
59 It is listed in the command descriptions and described in detail here:

63
Prints a command's online help message on the standard output
64 stream. Do not combine this flag with any of the command's other
65 options; when it is provided, the command interpreter ignores all other
66 options, and only prints the help message.
