  28 <P>Lists the local cell's database server machines
  29 <P><STRONG>Description</STRONG>
  30 <P>The server version of the <B>CellServDB</B> file lists the local
  31 cell's database server machines. These machines run the
  32 Authentication Server, Backup Server, Protection Server, and Volume Location
  33 (VL) Server (the <B>kaserver</B>, <B>buserver</B>,
  34 <B>ptserver</B>, and <B>vlserver</B>) processes, which maintain the
  35 cell's administrative AFS databases. The initial version of the
  36 file is created with the <B>bos setcellname</B> command during the
  37 installation of the cell's server machine, which is automatically
  38 recorded as the cell's first database server machine. When adding
  39 or removing database server machines, be sure to update this file
  40 appropriately. It must reside in the <B>/usr/afs/etc</B> directory
  41 on each AFS server machine.
  42 <P>The database server processes consult the <B>CellServDB</B> file to
  43 learn about their peers, with which they must maintain constant connections in
  44 order to coordinate replication of changes across the multiple copies of each
  45 database. The other AFS server processes consult the file to learn
  46 which machines to contact for information from the databases when they need
  47 it.
  48 <P>Although the <B>CellServDB</B> file is in ASCII format, do not use a
  49 text editor to alter it. Instead always use the appropriate commands
  50 from the <B>bos</B> command suite:

  52 <P><LI>The <B>bos addhost</B> command to add a machine to the file
  53 <P><LI>The <B>bos listhosts</B> command to display the list of machines from
  54 the file
  55 <P><LI>The <B>bos removehost</B> command to remove a machine from the file
  56 </UL>
  57 <P>In cells that run the United States edition of AFS and use the Update
  58 Server to distribute the contents of the <B>/usr/afs/etc</B> directory, it
  59 is customary to edit only the copy of the file stored on the system control
  60 machine. In cells that run the international version of AFS, edit the
  61 file on each server machine individually. For instructions on adding

  64 <P>The server version of the <B>CellServDB</B> file is distinct from the
  65 client version, which resides in the <B>/usr/vice/etc</B> directory on
  66 each AFS client machine. The server version lists only the local
  67 cell's database server machines, whereas the client version lists the
  68 database server machines in every AFS cell that the cell administrator wants
  69 the machine's users to be able to access.
