  24 <P>Lists file server machine interface addresses registered in VLDB
  25 <P><STRONG>Description</STRONG>
  26 <P>The <B>sysid</B> file records the network interface addresses that the
  27 File Server (<B>fileserver</B> process) registers in the Volume Location
  28 Database (VLDB) for the local file server machine.
  29 <P>Each time the File Server restarts, it builds a list of interfaces on the
  30 local machine by reading the <B>/usr/afs/local/NetInfo</B> file, if it
  31 exists. If the file does not exist, the File Server uses the list of
  32 network interfaces configured with the operating system. It then
  33 removes from the list any addresses that appear in the
  34 <B>/usr/afs/local/NetRestrict</B> file, if it exists. The File
  35 Server records the resulting list in the binary-format <B>sysid</B> file
  36 and registers the interfaces in the VLDB.
  37 <P>When the Cache Manager requests volume location information, the Volume
  38 Location (VL) Server provides all of the interfaces registered for each server
  39 machine that houses the volume. This enables the Cache Manager to make
  40 use of multiple addresses when accessing AFS data stored on a multihomed file
  41 server machine.
  42 <P><STRONG>Cautions</STRONG>
  43 <P>The <B>sysid</B> file is unique to each file server machine, and must
  44 not be copied from one machine to another. If it is a common practice
  45 in the cell to copy the contents of the <B>/usr/afs/local</B> directory
  46 from an existing file server machine to a newly installed one, be sure to
  47 remove the <B>sysid</B> file from the new machine before starting the
  48 <B>fs</B> trio of processes, which includes the <B>fileserver</B>
  49 process.
  50 <P>Some versions of AFS limit how many of a file server machine's
  51 interface addresses that can be registered. Consult the <I>IBM AFS
